In transportation projects, and really, in all large-scale public improvements, one of the most consistent criticisms is that the public and the community around the project doesn't know it's happening until bulldozers show up to start moving dirt. The Alamo RMA wants to make sure that doesn't happen with any improvement project we are working on for US 281.
How can we reach out to the community to help everyone be engaged, informed and involved with not only construction projects but also with the planning and design aspects of improvements? We hope that forums, such as the "Talking 281" blog and the "4-1-1 on 281" web site can be a key part of that discussion; but we know there is much more we can do to help everyone stay informed and involved with the Environmental Impact Statement process, with the progression of the Super Street, and other projects.
So, we are asking for your input and ideas. How can we communicate better with you? Is there a new idea out there that we haven't tried? Is there a neighborhood meeting you'd like for us to attend? What are your thoughts on how we can better work with you to help address any of your concerns? How can we obtain your input when it comes to improvements to US 281?
With the start of the Environmental Impact Statement process, we have at least three years to work together to find a long-term solution to the congestion impacting this corridor. We may not all agree on the answers at the end of the day, but hopefully we can all be engaged and involved with the process to ensure everyone's voice is heard, respected and included in the final result.
We look forward to your suggestions.
