281 Superstreet
US 281 Super Street
Final Phases of Construction
Final Phases of Construction
Why is work still happening on the Super Street? Due to the rain we received this Spring and Summer, the Super Street lost approximately 3 weeks of working time to weather. This has caused a delay in the project which we are working quickly to correct.
What do we still have to have done before the Super Street can open? We have a few items we still need to put into place: 1) the traffic signals and controllers, 2) resurfacing US 281 from Redland to just north of Marshall Road, 3) restriping US 281 to help drivers use the Super street safely and 4) minor curbing work at the intersections and along US 281.
Why are you having to close an intersection on a weekend? Road closure is never an easy decision. We know drivers are going to be inconvenienced – but in order to do all the work necessary to finish the Super Street, we need to close one intersection per weekend in order to have crews focus all their attention on the necessary improvements. While we could have scheduled this work for the entire corridor at one time, doing so would have resulted in at least two full weeks of multiple lanes closures along US 281 – a scenario no one wants to or should have to deal with on a daily basis.
So the Super Street is going to be open all at once? No, we will be opening intersections as the work is completed – once crews have closed an intersection, put the traffic controllers in place, resurfaced and restriped the intersection, that portion of the Super Street will be open to traffic. The full Super Street will be operational once work is completed at all the intersections. Until then, this phased approach will provide some help and relief as we move up the corridor.
When are you going to get to my intersection? How much notice will I be given? The schedule for the intersection closures will be posted online at www.411on281.com and www.AlamoRMA.org. We will also be posting dynamic message signs along US 281 and along the intersection to be closed the Monday before the closure happens.
